A Comparative Study on Fuzzy-Clustering-Based Lip Region Segmentation Methods

As the first step of many lip-reading or visual speaker authentication systems, lip region segmentation is of vital importance. And fuzzy clustering based methods have been widely used in lip segmentation. In this paper, four fuzzy clustering based lip segmentation methods have been elaborated with their underlying rationale. Experiments have been carried out evaluate their performance comparatively. From the experimental results, SFCM has the best efficiency and FCMST has the best segmentation accuracy.
Sequential Lip Region Segmentation Using Fuzzy Clustering with Spatial and Temporal Information

For many visual speech recognition and visual speaker authentication systems, lip region extraction is of vital important. In order to segment the lip region accurately and robustly from a lip sequence, a new fuzzy-clustering based algorithm is proposed. In the proposed method, a new dissimilarity measure is introduced to take all the color, spatial and temporal information into consideration. An iterative optimization method is employed to derive the optimal lip region membership map and the final segmentation result. From the experimental results, it is observed that the proposed algorithm can provide superior results compared with other traditional methods.

The review summarises current evidence on the cognitive mechanisms for the integration of spatial and temporal representations and of common brain structures to process the where and when of stimuli. Psychophysical experiments document the presence of spatially localised distortions of sub-second time intervals and suggest that visual events are timed by neural mechanisms that are spatially selective. Abstract Processing of temporal information may require the use of spatial attention to represent time along a mental time line. We used prismatic adaptation (PA) to explore the contribution of spatial attention to the spatial representation of time in right brain damaged patients with and without neglect of left space and in age-matched healthy controls. Right brain damaged patients presented time underestimation deficits, that were significantly greater in patients with neglect than in patients without neglect. In this work we analyze the observable asymmetries one can build from entangled B-meson states, in order to extract information on the parameters epsilon and delta which govern indirect violation of discrete symmetries. The traditionally proposed observables, based on flavour tags, are not helpful for the study of the Bd-system, where the tiny value of the width difference between physical states clears up such asymmetry effects. Our study makes instead use of CP tags in order to build new asymmetries where the different parameters can be separated out.
